It’s stagecraft-romantic-comedy time! Welcome courtiers, one and all.

Vancouver’s Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival is back for its 16th summer [as of 2005] and As You Like It is its opening offering. The show previews today, tomorrow, and Sunday.

Shakespeare’s classic, As You Like It follows the adventures of several courtiers.

They are all banished from the court to the Forest of Arden [a real place now known as Arden, Warwickshire] where they find romance and wisdom.

As You Like It features one of The Bard’s most famously-spirited characters, Rosalind.

She’s a babe who dresses like a boy. And Rosalind teaches sexy-handsome character Orlando (not Bloom, but just as hot) a few love lessons.

If that’s not enough, As You Like It also has a wrestler, a balladeer, and a clown. Oh, and a pretentious priest (or rather, vicar, pardon me), and a goatherd named Audrey.

The gang’s all here! Until September 25, 2005, that is.

The Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival is on now. As You Like It will be on the Vanier Park, Main Stage, 604-739-0559, 1 p.m.  Tickets $16-$28.50. For more information, visit bardonthebeach.org.
