Poetry weekend no. 22

NERVES ABOUND | My new friend Jordan Trethewey (someone I met only about a year ago, by chance, here in Fredericton) has been campaigning to get me more involved — involved in the city of Fredericton and its doings, in the local literary scene, involved socially.

He’s been very nice about it, but also somewhat relentless. Relentlessly nice, maybe, which is strange (to me) as a person who is suspicious of most acts of kindness, because of … whelp, 45 years of experience existing in the world, frankly, but I digress.

It was Jordan who told me about this thing called Poetry Weekend. It’s apparently a very big deal, and yet, I’d never heard of it before Jordan mentioned it. Not once in the three years since we moved here to New Brunswick, even, though I am married to someone who works at UNB and even knows the host/organizer (long story).

Anyway, Jordan pushed me to try to get involved and I gave in and made a modest effort and, whelp, I will be reading poetry at Poetry Weekend, and so if you’re local, you can come see me in the afternoon slot on Saturday afternoon, or just in the audience at pretty much every other slot. I am going to try to go to all of them if I can.

The readings are free and open to the public. I have no idea what to expect and am pretty nervous, so friendly-faces are very welcome. I’ll be bringing some copies of my book, though, so if you want one, you can grab one from me for a steal. I promise to charge the friends-and-family rate (or the imposter syndrome rate). IDK.

I think I am going to read this new one I have called “A Late-Nite Bout of Perimenopausal Neurodivergence To Be Discussed Later, In Therapy”.

In other words, I’ll probably go funny and self-deprecating. Always a crowd-pleaser, right?

Also I literally made this “poster” and took this photo of myself this morning. I might need to take a better one. I look SO tired and puffy. (Which is accurate, but also not really the vibe.) Come hear some poems, ya? Okay baiiiii!
