LIVE & IN-PERSON | I can’t believe it’s been nearly four months since my first storytelling show happened at the Charlotte Streets Arts Centre here in Fredericton. But it has! If you remember, the last show raised money for Habitat for Humanity New Brunswick.

And we’re doing it again! And I will be there again! No idea what my slot is.

There are probably 6-7 readers. I know the poster says 8, but I’m not sure there really are that many.

Last time, my story was long and I was last. This time, my story is not as long and I don’t want to be an egomaniac who expects to be last. so I am probably not last.

Matt, the lovely person at CSAC who organizes these things, isn’t the most communicative, but that’s okay. It’s very casual and east-coasty and my nervous, addeled heart needs more chill so I’m refusing to get fussed about it. It’s a good lesson in coping with the unknown when Type A behaviours are what usually give me peace. I must lean into my Type B-ness. Practice will never make me perfect in this regard, but a human can try.

ANYWAY, it doesn’t matter because ALL the storytellers are likely to be good and I think the venue is air conditioned.

AC is KEY, lemme tell you. It’s been SO hot. So so so hot. And I know I’m a big-back, so being hot is a given. (Also, I’m sorry to use AAVE, but I just love the phrase big-back so much and I am appropriating it. I CAN’T HELP MYSELF.) But I’m just saying that AC or not, I am going to bring a fan and you should too.

Some things that are different than last time? It’s a ticketed event, but it’s pay-what-you-will. It is also once again, a not-for-profit venture that will support a local initiative. The CSAC is a beloved local org that is also a nfp, so it supports them of course, but this time, half is going to Hospice Fredericton as well.

I love doing these events. Really. I can’t say that enough. It’s just been such fun and I feel so good about being able to raise a little money for good causes at the same time, especially in these trying times.

Grab a ticket in advance or just come on down. I’m sure there will be plenty at the door. If you’re a pal, text me. I’m meeting some friends beforehand for drinks and you should join us! Let’s make a night of it.

Beware: I WILL be sweaty, even with my fan. See you soon!
